Before interacting with God through the symbols of his body and blood during communion, Jesus commanded his bickering, immature disciples to prepare for this intimate encounter by cleansing their hearts via their feet. Jesus himself knelt before each of his friends and humbly washed their feet and in so doing taught them some fascinating lessons about the true spirit of the new covenant Passover service.
